Accept Your Life

Acceptance is the way to a truly peaceful life and existence. The only reason we’re not peaceful and undisturbed like water on a silent, still lake is because we allow our emotions to create first ripples, and then huge waves on the surface of our lakes.
When something happens and we don’t like it, we tend to push against it, denying that thing and choosing to believe it didn’t happen despite deep down knowing the truth of the matter.
In this way, we create resistance against the reality of a situation, and harm ourselves the longer we deny it. We continue to feel negative emotions, even though we know the only way to get rid of the pain is to simply let go of it, accept what happened, and know that everything happens for a reason - for our highest good.
The ability to accept whatever comes your way is a skill that will bring you closer to lifelong peace and happiness. However, learning it doesn’t come easy. You first have to push against the pull to fall back into previous negative patterns - the ones that have you react strongly to things that don’t go your way.
But I promise, the more you practice this skill of accepting what’s outside of your control - called acquiescence in Stoicism and 无为 (wúwéi) in Daoism - the more you’ll begin to truly enjoy life in a profound way that no one can take away from you. You will then become the master of your own life.
